I noticed this video last week for the largest Banksy exhibit to date, Banksy Versus Bristol Museum, which started last Saturday 13th June. As a massive Banksy fan I must say that I was very excited by the prospect of so much of the elusive street artists work under one roof.
Admittedly there has been some scepticism from critics claiming that his very presence in such an exhibit goes against everything he stands for… but I think it is still fantastic, and will definitely be finding the time to get down to Bristol to see it. For all interested the exhibit is admission free runs until 31st August 2009.

Google Streetview Guerrilla ads Amsterdam
Google has claimed the streets of Amsterdam in order to promote the functionality of their Google Street view application. The activity (shown below) consist of stencils on the streets and Outdoor posters in bus stops where people can see how it all works. The activity promotes the Street view service in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Groningen, which launched roughly the same time as it did here in the UK (March 2009).

One more quick note for all of those curious, whilst on the subject of Amsterdam and Google Street View... yes you can view the famous Red Light District (Redlight District Amsterdam on Google Street View).

Sky HDTV: Airport Invasion TV
OK so how do you demonstrate the lifelike clarity of Sky HDTV? Well creating a guerrilla 'channel hopping' experience for everyone at Sao Paulo Airport might do it. A nice example of doing something a bit out of the ordinary in a public space.
Enjoy!

T-Mobile karaoke aired during Britain's Got Talent
Ok, so on Thursday (April 30th) there was a lot of speculation over what was going down on the T-Mobile front, and I for one was particularly curious to find out how they were going to differentiate their next social engagement 'Life is for sharing' project from all of the copycats we have been seeing recently. Well hats off to T-Mobile, because they've done it again. T-Mobile's hosted a large-scale karaoke event in Trafalgar Square hosted by presenter Vernon Kay attracting an estimated 13,500 people, and included a guest appearance from popstar Pink.
T-Mobile karaoke - Full Length Video
The ad (see above) including The Beatles' Hey Jude and Britney Spears' Baby One More Time, was aired during last night's Britain's Got Talent with a longer version available on the T-Mobile 'Life is for sharing' YouTube Channel. For anyone interested on how it was put together, Campaign have put together a behind the scenes video (below).
Campaign.TV - The Making of The T-Mobile karaoke advert
Unfortunately I couldn't go down on the day and had to see the event unfold on Twitter (Which in itself was a pretty weird experience, with roughly 2-3 updates every 5 seconds... see chart below).
T-Mobile - Mentions Chart
The experience was also captured by the blogging community with the first one I noticed from Nick viewed here. I was also wondering whether anyone was actually lucky enough to see themselves in the ad last night? Or any thoughts on how they felt about the event itself?

T-Mobile Flashmobbing - Trafalgar Square chosen for next Advert
Firstly... no this is not a joke... Today will see an army of people congregate in London's Trafalgar Square for another taste of the Liverpool Street T-Mobile 'Life's For Sharing' Flashmob. The video trailer for the event due to be held at 6pm - 7pm Today (April 30th 2009), was posted on T-Mobile's YouTube channel on Sunday 26th April, and is swiftly making its way around the web, entitled 'T-Mobile's Next Event - Trafalgar Square' (shown below).
I am however a bit scepticle of how this will be received, not because their last dance was only 3 months ago (I mean that was fantastic), but mainly because there seems to have been a lot of copycat attempts in the meantime which may have stolen T-Mobile's thunder (Such as the below for example). I'm sure it will be great, and lead to some great work off the back of it, but I can't help but think that we're not thirsty enough for a repeat just yet.

100 Single Ladies Flashmobbing - Trident Unwrapped
'Trident Unwrapped' have have carried out a nice piece of guerrilla activity by means of a flashmob in London's Piccadilly Circus, to promote a new competition offering tickets to an exclusive Beyoncé 'I AM' show at London's 02 on 15th November 2009. So how do you promote something like this? How about 100 Single Ladies, dancing to 100 Single Ladies by Beyoncé in Piccadilly Circus (that oughta do it).
For those of you interested in order to enter all customers need to do is purchase a pack of Trident gum, then enter the last four digits of their barcode to enter the ticket ballot.

Firstly no... Wally the whale hasn't made a appearance back to the London's capital, this is the work of National Geographic Channel to celebrate the premiere of Blue Whale Odyssey on Tonight (Wednesday 1st April at 9pm) and the launch of its new channel, Nat Geo Wild HD. Kia Soul - Graffiti and Eco-friendly advertising Used to Launch New Model
This is the latest campaign by Kia to launch their new model the Kia Soul. The campaign, which is all about Soul and freedom, and so Kia has commissioned six pieces of street art in six cities around the UK. The graffiti artists 'End of the Line' are painting six pieces of Soul art on walls and billboards around Bristol, London, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle and Birmingham.
Kia Soul - Street Art
As well as the commissioned six pieces of graffiti, Kia have also enlisted the help of unique eco-advertising services agency 'CURB' to use 150 'clean ads' to raise awareness of the Kia Soul and direct people to their dedicated website shapeyoursoul.com.

The green ads work by 'spray cleaning' dirty pavements using a stencil, with the message lasting up to 8 weeks depending on the location, a process which is is 100% legal as nothing is added to the surface except water collected in rain barrels. Throughout the campaign CURB are hoping to deliver over 750 clean ads nationwide in what will be one of the biggest clean advertising campaigns ever conducted.

Earlier this year CURB conducted a guerrilla campaign for extreme sports channel Extreme, by taking advantage of the freak snow which fell over London in January 2009. With the use of branded stencils, London was bombarded by subtle Extreme logos popping up in the snow (roughly 2000, in 350 high-profile locations).

Eden launch Channel with Iceberg in the Thames
Yesterday to mark the launch of new Natural History channel Eden, a 16ft high Iceberg complete with Polar bear and cub was set floating down the Thames. So in a bid to remember everything I see that’s a little bit different, I had to get this down as a post.

Other activity included branded filler style ads in the morning and evening freesheets, and a lot of PR. The launch is also supported by a very nice site, which houses everything you would expect to see, from photo and video galleries to information about the programmes, and interviews. The trailer for the channel is below, for all of you, whom like me, love a good documentary.
Update: Here is a cool video sent to me on YouTube, which shows the days counting down to the Eden launch.

T-Mobile - Flashmobbing Liverpool Street Advert
Better late than never, and I really have been waiting for the opportunity to post this, so here it is. Last Friday 16th January saw the latest advert for T-Mobile which was filmed and on air, in less than 48 hours (very impressive by no means when you think about the planning which must have been involved). The ad saw 350 dancers performing at London's Liverpool Street Station in front of the regular footfall of commuters, and aired during the entire ad break in 'Celebrity Big Brother' on Channel 4.
The three-minute guerrilla ad titled 'Dance' is supported by a T-Mobile 'Life's for sharing' YouTube channel which includes the advert, behind the scenes footage, and audition footage as well as a chance to view the new G1 mobile phone of course.
Although this is not the first time flashmobbing has been carried out as part of a guerrilla-style campaign, it works well, and is always refreshing to see. Other examples include the Lastminute.com guerrilla viral campaign which was carried out at Stansted Airport in May 2008 (Shown below).

Free fuel anyone? Welcome the launch of Mercenaries 2
This week saw the launch of the second game in the Mercenaries series launched by Electronic Arts, with a very cunning, and controversial launch strategy which has thrown up a number of differing views.
So, the game, 'Mercenaries 2: World in Flames' is set in 2010 Venezuela, where a evil dictator has seized control of the country's oil supply. It is the player's mission to hunt down this dictator and end his terrible cause. Oil therefore becomes the game's currency, and you as the player must use your array of available weapons and vast collection of vehicles to work your way through the game.
Ok, now the launch strategy, Electronic Arts offered 500 lucky motorists the chance to win £40 worth of free fuel, in a massive £20,000 first come first served petrol giveaway. The 'problem' was that this offer was only available at the Last Stop garage which lies between Stroud Green and Finsbury Park, in North London, in the middle of a residential area, during the morning rush hour. As you can imagine chaos followed, with queues, arguments, and a few delighted winning motorists.
A silly idea with clear neglect of the consequences, or brilliant piece of strategic thinking? Well I'm afraid I'm going to have to say that i agree with the latter. What an excellent way of causing mayhem and reflecting the true colours of the game, with a lovely sprinkling of PR to boot. I think this was a very brave and ballsy idea which the client and agency should be proud of.

Eerie guerrilla activity for new Lotus launch
It was the grand unveiling of the new Lotus Evora at the British International Motor Show on Tuesday this week, and the start of an interesting guerrilla campaign which sees a creepy band of faceless people wondering around high profile places throughout England (see pic below).
The tagline underpinning the campaign is "True character in a faceless world", and is supported by the website www.FacelessPeople.com.
It was slightly unhinging seeing these characters when walking around the Motor Show, but is certainly impactful especially considering everything else going on around the show.
