Magnum Pleasure Hunt Flash Experience

This is a fantastic example of a great online flash game from Magnum ice-cream, which allows the user to navigate multiple websites collecting Magnums along the way.  The idea created by Lowe Brindfors is based around the fact that the internet is a treasure full of pleasures, as control the game character around multiple sites interacting with anyone and everything as she goes. Well worth checking out if you have a spare couple of minutes pleasurehunt.mymagnum.com.

Cadbury Creme Egg Cad-apult - using Google Maps to goo your friends

Cadbury's Creme Egg is one of those brands who are known for creating some very clever and engaging formats and microsites, and this example is no different. The Cadbury Creme Egg Cad-apult from Canada gives people the opportunity to goo both friend or foe by simply imputing their address and hitting the 'fire' button, then using the Google Maps functionality an egg is fired through the sky directly onto the chosen target. This is definitely one worth checking out, so you can view the microsite here Returnofthegoo.ca

Farmville roll out promotion with Green Giant

Over the last year social gaming on sites such as Facebook has exploded, with millions of people logging on and playing every day, and millions of pounds spend on virtual transactions to enhance their game play. Well now social gaming giant Farmville (currently with 65m users, and 20m playing daily) has teamed up with Green Giant placing Farmville Cash coupon stickers (for ‘5 free farm cash’) on selected products in 4,000 supermarkets across the US.

It was reported on Mashable that in the six week pilot for the promotion, which was launched in Target Fresh Grocery and Super Target stores, there were more than 100,000 in virtual Farm Cash redeemed using the stickers which appeared on 25 different Green Giant products. The promotion was then expanded to supermarket nationwide as a result of the success of the pilot.

It is great to see how the social gaming space has seen such a fantastic increase (despite the hundreds of daily updates in my news feed), and will be interesting to see how it evolves.

RubberDuckZilla: Augmented Reality Game

Ok so, Augmented Reality seems to definitely be one of this years hot potatoes, with Oasis the latest brand to integrate the technology within its latest RubberDuckZilla campaign. There are four RubberDuckZilla Augmented Reality Games in total, with two currently available 'Massive Aqua Rampage' and 'Rainavoid' (with the following games available next month). You can see Poke London, the guys responsible, playing the games in the video below.

Video - Augmented Reality Rubberduckzilla Demonstration

The campaign is the latest example of Oasis activity to follow the awesome Godzilla type ad (shown below), which definitely sets the scene for the Retro AR games, as well as introducing everyone to the strangely adorable Tokyo destroying rubber duck.

The remaining upcoming games are apparently tied in with media partnerships, so I will update this as and when this lands. Enjoy!

Update - Friday 12th July 2009:

Since writting this post earlier in the week, the campaign has extended in to The Sun newspaper where RubberDuckZilla, and the Augmented Reality Games have gone mainstream. Today a total of around 7.8 million readers (based on total adult readership) will see the Augmented Reality symbol (shown below), and be encouraged to experiment with the games.

Killzone 2 - World Wide War Campaign

To promote the release of the new first person shooter Killzone 2, which was released on the PS3 on February 27th 2009, a war is raging online and every one's invited. The Killzone 2 Web Game is effectively a 'World Wide War' which allows users to surf the net as normal but with the threat of being ambushed at any point by the ruthless Helghast.

To play users simply register, choose whether they want to fight as a lone wolf, or as part as a squad, install the Killzone toolbar, and your ready to roll. Then by simply signing in, users can browse the web as they normally would with the game kicking in as soon as the enemy appears on the screen.

I really like this idea, and think it is a very interesting way of cutting through it a pretty busy and noisy environment. The gaming industry seems to be a very dog-eat-dog world where word of mouth and community have become key. You only need to look at the success of the latest Video Game Baftas to see that online has become one of the key drivers to a games success, and therefore allowing the target audience to interact before hand, as in the aforementioned Killzone Webgame example is a brilliant move.

Routes Game – Channel 4 and Wellcome Trust initiative to teach us about Genetics

Welcome to Routes, a new initiative commissioned by Channel 4 and the research charity Wellcome Trust to teach today’s youth about genetics and how genetic testing could affect us all. The Routes game experience in short is a huge educational project which takes the form of a series of online multiplayer games combining an ARG (Alternate Reality Game), video and viral content, to bring to life the new Channel 4 TV programme Routes which explores the topic of genetics and bio-ethics.

Four games have been created for the project and will be rolled out over the next two months starting with Breeders, which is available to play now. The other games in the series will be Sneeze, DNA Heroes, and Ginger Dawn.

Breeder as mentioned is the first in the series, in which the user gets points for breeding their very own creature. Points are won when someone breeds with their creature, with prizes offered throughout the process.

This is a great idea, with a large amount of users already playing. Other features allow players to upload their customised organisms onto their social network profiles, and watch them evolve over time. With the TV programme’s help, the prizes acting as an incentive for users to join, and with the addictive and easy to follow ways in which people can earn bonus points etc, I can see this catching on very quickly.

Kit Kat Perfect Break – So who’s tea round is it??

At last Kit Kat answers that age old question of ‘Who turn is it to get the teas in?’… Or is that just relevant to my pod of desks in the office. This is the new Perfect Break campaign by Kit Kat giving users the chance to enjoy a break on their microsite whether you’re at home, work, or even in the garden. With three different options Kit Kat offers you the chance to enjoy a selection of ‘Fun and Games’, take a ‘Brain Break’, or use the ‘Who’s getting the Coffee tool?’.

Each option is nicely put together and sure to keep you entertained, with Sudoku, Crosswords, Kit Kat style Tetris (Break Down), and Alleyway (Brick Break) games. There is also more downloadable content than you could wave a chocolate covered wafer at.

The campaign is supported by both offline and online activity, with a competition on the site, and interactive 'Kit Kat Perfect Break' Facebook page which launched this week.

Thanks Suni for flagging this one, and Shep I'm pretty sure that makes it your round! Sorry mate!

Honda Fit Vs. Fuelivores – Campaign

This is the campaign by Honda - 'Honda Fit Vs. Fuelivores', for the new Fit, set in the style of a Mad Max style futuristic movie, in which we see our hero the Honda Fit, battle against the evil mutant Fuelivores. The user must choose a side, and battle their way through various levels, and challenges to unlock content, and continue through the movie.

This is a well designed smooth site, with simple concept, and reasonably addictive content. The features of the car, all explained in a tongue in cheek way, which somehow are a benefit to you in this epic battle of good and evil. There is also plenty of additional features to the site offering users, free downloads, the ability to share unlocked movies, and explore the car in a lot of depth.

Heineken Know The Signs Campaign

Over the last few months Heineken have carried out a piece of World Wide research into the characters people experience when people drink a little too much. To help us spot the signs before its too late Heineken have put together the Know The Signs Campaign, which highlights this to us, in a video rich online game.

Once on the Know The Signs microsite, users are asked to play the part of a security guard, and given to task to seek out the troublemakers in the crowd, before its too late.

The characters - The Crier, The Fighter, The Sleeper, The Exhibitionist, and The Groper, are each given their own videos once spotted on the security camera, with the player given the chance to send the clip to a friend in the form of a widget for their Facebook or iPhone etc.

This is a nice site, and a good way of showcasing Heineken's corporate social responsibility in an engaging way which is both interactive, and entertaining. It was also quite interesting to read about the campaign, which apparently highlighted America as the most emotional bunch, with 68% saying they saw The Crier in their friends on a night out.

Hewlett Packard ‘Itkwando’ Viral

This is quite simply a scrolling beat em produced for Hewlett Packard, in the style of Streets of Rage 2, but set in the world of IT. You play Dave, with the task of defeating the foes of Network Security. Although slightly random, this is rather addictive, and so is exactly what we look for in an online game.

Return to Tastebuddyland with Robinsons

To support their ongoing campaign, Robinsons have created a website compiling of three mini games in order to allow us to get better acquainted to the Tastebuddys, and see what things are like from their perspective.

The online games are of a very good quality and are pretty addictive, with users being invited to carry out tasks such as navigating wasps around the garden, and guiding the mini Tastebuddy characters safely across the pond. Definitely worth checking out if you have a spare couple of minutes.

Routan Baby Maker 3000 invites you to make a baby, without actually making a baby!!

As part a new VW Routan campaign in the US, Volkswagen have released the Routan Baby Maker 3000, a microsite which allows you to upload a picture of yourself and your partner to see what your offspring would look like.

This is a very similar idea to the Dole Baby maker, Funkadelic posted in August 'Dole shows how to make a baby online', with the added bonus of having the created baby's eyes follow your cursor around the screen. Once the user has created their baby, they can announce the birth, send to a friend, or even make another baby.

The microsite plays on the fact that there is a 'Routan boom', with an increased need for German engineering. Actress Brooke Shields introduces the site through a tongue in cheek video which sets the scene.

This is an amusing campaign, with a lot of thought put into it. The babies created are still slightly terrifying, and the added movement element may give some people a few sleepless nights, but the message is clear, and the site is very smooth and easy to navigate.

Call of Duty: World at War – Is this the last time we see World War II?

It has been reported that Call of Duty: World at War may be our last visit to World War II in the Call of Duty series. Treyarch’s Noah Heller, the senior producer on Call of Duty: World at War, was reported in saying to the Official Xbox Magazine (UK) “I won’t let your readers read into the comment too much, but we are showing the final battles of the Pacific and the European Theatre and that lets us put a close to the war. I’m sure game companies will be making World War II games for years to come and World War II is a very classic war. But we’re happy that we put the war to bed.”

Following the feedback for the recent Call of Duty: World at War beta demo, this is going to come as a great relief to some Call of Duty fans. With the hope of further instalments such as Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

The Call of Duty: World at War beta demo was released roughly a two weeks ago with mixed reviews, judge for yourself and view the gameplay video below:

The second in the series 'Peanut Pickup' featuring Millie the Mouse, requires the user to guide Millie around the elephant pen throwing peanuts to satisfy his hunger, with the chance to win one of five fantastic prizes (a signed and framed print of the Creature Discomforts character featured in the game).

Creature Discomforts viral games launched as part of ongoing Leonard Cheshire Disability campaign

Disability charity Leonard Cheshire Disability have launched the first of a series of four online viral games to support their ongoing awareness campaign featuring Aardman Animation’s hallmark plasticine creations.

The first in the series 'Flyzzz' features Callum the Chameleon, and requires users to catch flies in the allotted time with the chance to win one of five fantastic prizes (a signed and framed print of the Creature Discomforts character featured in the game). There is also a brilliantly thought out 'audio only' feature that allows accessibility to the game for the visually impaired.

There will be a new game released every fortnight, with a grand prize draw at the end of the activity, offering the lucky winner a special 'money-can't buy' Aardman Animations related prize (soon to be announced).

This is an excellent continuation from the current award winning campaign, with the Aardman Animations characters adding an extra level of engagement to the game. I will certainly be looking out for the future releases.
